‘Wish you were here’ is a unique theatre project devised by Jolly Good Show, in which non-English speaking children rehearse and perform a new play written in English. The focus of the rehearsal process is on improving acting and English language ability, boosting confidence, and having fun.

At the beginning of the workshops, each participant is given a script and a character pack. Characters are tailored to language ability. The project culminates in a public performance.

In the early years, language is acquired instinctively through repetition and association. Older children who have yet to master a language can often feel overwhelmed by its technicalities. We support traditional teaching methods by re-introducing young people to instinctive habits, a task particularly suited to theatre with its processes of rehearsal and role-play.
